Arteta: Arsenal performed better than Villa & should not have lost, we just lacked goals today

In the 16th round of the Premier League, Villa defeated Arsenal 1-0 at home. After the game, Gunners head coach Arteta was interviewed.

About the competition

Arteta: “We performed really well and I think we were a better team and we shouldn’t have lost the game, but that’s football.”

About the lack of goals

“You have to put the ball into the opponent’s goal, and that’s the only thing we were missing today. We created some very, very big opportunities and took the ball deep into the opponent’s penalty area, and we still lost the game.”

About Vera

“They are a very good team in a very good period and I congratulate them and that’s what we have to do.”

What makes you feel depressed?

“It’s the result. I’m really proud of the way the team performed in this game. We deserved to win this game, but you have to do better in the penalty area for things to go your way.”

About what’s wrong?

“Not scoring was one of those things, especially in the second half, where we lost some control and gave the ball away to them and we attacked too quickly because we wanted to play behind and we could have done better.”

On whether players need improvement

“I just told them to keep their heads up because the way they played was good. I’ve seen a lot of teams come here before but I didn’t see a lot of teams put in the performance we did against them today and it wasn’t us. Wanted, but the way we played was definitely what we wanted.”
